Teeth-In-A-Day
in Vero Beach, FL

For patients who have lived with failing teeth, painful infections, or unworkable dentures, the most life-changing question is often the simplest one: how soon can I have teeth again?

Teeth-in-a-Day is our answer for many of them. In a single surgical visit, Dr. J. Andrew Colgan removes failing teeth, places dental implants, and delivers a fixed temporary bridge. Patients walk out the same day with a non-removable set of teeth.

What Teeth-In-A-Day Means

The phrase Teeth-in-a-Day refers to a class of treatment that compresses what used to take many months into a single surgical visit. The core idea is to use four to six strategically positioned dental implants that have enough initial stability to immediately support a fixed temporary bridge.

The result: you walk into the office with broken, painful, or missing teeth and walk out with fixed teeth attached to implants that will eventually integrate with the bone and support your final restoration.

You may have heard this called:

  • Same-day teeth
  • Teeth in an hour
  • Immediate load implants
  • All-on-4 with immediate function
  • All-on-X same-day
  • Same-day dental implants
  • Hybrid Express Platinum (Dr. Colgan’s proprietary version, see Hybrid Express Platinum)

These all describe the same family of treatment. The differences come down to the protocol, the materials, the implant count, the surgical approach, and the experience of the team performing the work.

Why This Is Different From Traditional Implant Treatment

Traditional implant treatment is staged over many months:

  1. Extract the tooth and place a graft (visit 1)
  2. Wait three to six months for the graft to mature
  3. Place the implant (visit 2)
  4. Wait three to six months for the implant to integrate
  5. Place the abutment and final crown (visit 3)
  6. Total elapsed time: nine to twelve months, with multiple temporary phases in between

During this period, you typically wear a flipper, retainer, or removable temporary, which moves around, comes out for cleaning, and is difficult to live with for many patients.

Teeth-in-a-Day compresses this into one surgical visit and a single healing phase. You leave with fixed teeth on the day of surgery. The final restoration is delivered three to six months later, by which time the implants have fully integrated.

Who Is a Candidate

Most patients with failing or missing teeth across an arch are candidates. The key requirement is enough bone (and the right quality of bone) for the implants to achieve initial stability. We confirm this with 3D cone beam imaging at consultation.

Good candidates typically include:

  • Patients with extensive failing teeth in one or both arches
  • Current denture wearers who want a fixed alternative
  • Patients with severe periodontal disease that has compromised most teeth
  • Patients with badly worn or broken-down teeth that are not restorable individually
  • Patients in reasonable general health
  • Non-smokers (or patients willing to stop)

Patients who may need a staged approach instead include those with very limited bone (where grafting is needed first) and those with active uncontrolled infection in the surgical site. We will tell you honestly which approach fits your case.

What Happens on the Day of Surgery

The day of surgery is a major event but is also one of the most consistently positive experiences our patients describe. Here is what to expect.

Morning arrival. You arrive with your adult escort. Vital signs are checked, the IV is placed, and we review the final plan with you.

Sedation begins. IV sedation is administered. You drift off and have no memory of the procedure.

The procedure (typically 3 to 5 hours):

  • Any remaining failing teeth are removed
  • The implant sites are prepared based on the surgical plan
  • Four to six implants are placed in the planned positions
  • A bite registration is captured so the temporary bridge fits properly
  • The temporary bridge is fabricated and attached, often the same day (some cases attach it the morning after)

Recovery. You wake in our recovery area. Once you are stable and comfortable, you go home with your escort.

The next morning or two. A follow-up visit confirms everything is comfortable, the bite is correct, and the temporary bridge is functioning as expected.

Recovery and Healing

Most patients describe the recovery as much easier than they expected. Typical timeline:

  • Day of surgery: Some swelling and discomfort, well managed with prescribed medication. Soft diet, rest, head elevation, ice packs.
  • Days 2 to 4: Swelling peaks then begins to subside. Soft foods continue. Most patients are at home but functional.
  • Week 1: Significant improvement. Soft diet still recommended, with gradual return to firmer foods.
  • Weeks 2 to 4: Most patients are back to normal activities, with continued attention to the diet to protect the integrating implants.
  • Months 3 to 6: The implants fully integrate with the bone. Final bridge is delivered.

You will receive detailed written instructions, prescriptions, and direct phone access to our team throughout recovery.

The Final Bridge

The temporary bridge you leave with on the day of surgery is functional, esthetic, and designed to carry you through the healing phase. It is not the final restoration.

After the implants have fully integrated (three to six months), your final bridge is fabricated and delivered. Final bridges are made from:

  • Hybrid acrylic (a titanium framework with acrylic teeth)
  • Zirconia (a stronger, more stain-resistant ceramic)
  • Other ceramic options for select cases

Dr. Colgan and your restorative dentist will discuss which material fits your bite, your appearance goals, and your budget.

How Our Approach Differs

Patients comparing offices for full arch implants often hear similar marketing language from multiple practices. Here is what is specific about our approach:

  • Surgery is performed by a board-certified oral and maxillofacial surgeon with over 20 years of full-time surgical experience.
  • Anesthesia is delivered in-office under Dr. Colgan’s direct supervision, by a team that has worked together for years.
  • Treatment uses Dr. Colgan’s proprietary Hybrid Express Platinum protocol in many full arch cases, a refinement of standard same-day-teeth approaches based on decades of clinical experience.
  • You are evaluated, treated, and followed up with by Dr. Colgan personally. Full arch cases are not delegated to associates.

We coordinate with your general dentist or restorative dentist so the handoff to the final restoration is seamless.

Frequently Asked Questions

Will I really leave with teeth on the same day?

Yes, for qualifying patients. The fixed temporary bridge is delivered the same day in most cases. A small number of cases require a brief overnight wait before the bridge is attached, depending on the situation.

Is the same-day bridge the final bridge?

No. The bridge you leave with is a high-quality fixed temporary designed to carry you through the healing phase. Your final bridge is fabricated after the implants have integrated, typically three to six months later.

How many implants are used?

Most arches are restored with four to six implants. The exact number depends on your bone, bite forces, and prosthetic plan. Dr. Colgan determines this during planning based on your 3D scan.

What is the difference between this and All-on-4?

All-on-4 is one specific protocol (and trademark) for full arch implants. Teeth-in-a-Day is the broader concept of same-day fixed teeth, which can be delivered using various implant counts and protocols. Many All-on-4 cases also qualify as Teeth-in-a-Day cases.

Will the surgery be painful?

The procedure itself is performed under IV sedation, so you will not feel or remember it. Post-operative discomfort is typically milder than patients expect and is well managed with medication for a few days.

How long does the surgery take?

The surgery typically takes three to five hours for a single arch and four to seven hours for both arches at the same time.

Can I drive home after surgery?

No. IV sedation requires an adult escort to drive you home and ideally to stay with you for several hours afterward.

How long do the results last?

The implants are designed to be permanent. The final bridge typically lasts many years and can be refurbished or replaced if needed without disturbing the implants.

Will my insurance pay for this?

Coverage varies. Many plans cover at least a portion of the surgical fee, the implants, or the prosthetic. Medicare does not cover most dental implants. Our team verifies your benefits and provides a clear written estimate.

Am I too old for Teeth-in-a-Day?

Age alone is not a contraindication. Dr. Colgan regularly performs full arch implant treatment for patients in their 70s and 80s. What matters is your overall health, bone availability, and ability to manage the surgery and recovery.

What if I do not have enough bone?

In many cases, the same-day approach can be achieved by using longer implants, angled implants, or implants placed in areas with available bone (a technique called tilted-implant placement). For cases where bone is severely limited, a staged approach with grafting may be a better option. Dr. Colgan will tell you honestly which path fits your case.

Can I have both arches done in the same visit?

Yes. Many patients have full mouth reconstruction (both arches) on the same day. Recovery is more involved than for a single arch but is well tolerated by most patients.
