‍Vero Beach, FL

Oral surgery is a specialty within dentistry focused on conditions of the mouth, jaw, and face that go beyond what general dentists treat. At Vero Beach Surgical Arts, Dr. J. Andrew Colgan handles oral surgery cases referred to us by dentists, orthodontists, and physicians across the Treasure Coast, as well as patients who come to us directly.

Procedures We Perform

Wisdom Teeth Removal

The most common oral surgery procedure we perform. Most teenagers and many adults have wisdom teeth that need to come out before they cause crowding, infection, or damage to neighboring molars.

Tooth Extractions

For teeth that cannot be saved or restored, we perform simple and surgical extractions, often with same-day bone grafting to preserve the site for a future implant.

Facial Trauma Treatment

When a fall, sports injury, or accident damages the teeth, jaws, or facial bones, oral and maxillofacial surgeons are the specialists trained to repair the injury.

Why See an Oral Surgeon?

Oral and maxillofacial surgeons are dentists who have completed an additional four to six years of hospital-based residency training in surgery, anesthesia, and complex oral and facial procedures. We are trained to administer IV sedation in-office, manage medical complexity, and handle cases that fall outside what general dentists treat.

That training matters when:

The procedure involves bone (extractions, implants, jaw surgery)
You have medical conditions that complicate routine dental procedures
You are anxious and want the comfort of full sedation
Your case is complex (impactions, multiple extractions, prior surgical history)

In-Office Surgery and Sedation

All of our oral surgery procedures are performed in our office. Most are done under IV sedation, which means you will be comfortable and have little or no memory of the procedure afterward. We monitor patients carefully throughout, with full medical monitoring equipment and a team trained in advanced cardiac and airway support.
